Culture and Art in the Times of COVID-19
The Vienna-Tel Aviv Vocal Connection, which furthers outstanding young professional opera singers, never stopped its activities even now during the COVID-19 pandemic. In times when the world of art and culture seems to come to an impending halt, we produced together with our enthusiastic singer in Austria, Germany and the USA a musical tribute to Human Brotherhood, singing “Brüderlein und Schwesterlein” from Johann Strauss’ operetta “The Bat”. The Israeli Embassy in Vienna, the Austrian Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Austrian Cultural Forum supported and posted this tribute seen by thousands of viewers.
In spite of the current difficult times, we continue our activities. Unwaveringly, we continue to guide our singers technically and musically using skype and zoom. Together with Haifa Symphony Orchestra and Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva, we are presently producing concerts in front of empty halls. The concerts will be recorded and streamed in the media. As we would like to give the now-starved audiences a delightful and uplifting experience, we are making every possible effort to prepare full-scale productions, where four of our singers will join chamber ensembles consisting of players from the orchestras and five excellent dancers. Choreography is by Orya De Israeli and Tzahi Ben-Meir, and stage direction by Rosemarie Danziger.
We hope that you will join us in the effort to keep our culture alive during these difficult times, where cultural life seems to have come to a standstill. Most importantly, give the music lovers in Israel a sense of trust in the future of our culture.
Sincerely yours,
Rosemarie Danziger (Executive Director)
